Experience and Observations

The visit began immediately after school, with a train journey to Kranj. Upon arrival, the festival’s atmosphere was immediately captivating. The exhibitions were spread across various locations, from the Kolerica Gorge to the charming old streets, ensuring that art, storytelling, and creativity were present at every turn.

Throughout the day, more than ten exhibitions were explored, each offering a unique perspective. However, a few stood out significantly:

  • Fragments of Being and Belonging by Chidinma Nnoram This collection focused on themes of identity and belonging, conveyed through vibrant and emotional photographs. The images and their accompanying stories felt deeply personal and thought-provoking, prompting reflection on the meaning of belonging.
  • Reversed Surveillance by Marcel Top This exhibition presented a compelling critique of modern surveillance. Marcel Top reversed the concept, questioning the fairness and accuracy of technological monitoring. By turning these tools against themselves, the artwork highlighted the delicate balance between security and privacy, making it both creative and highly relevant.
  • The Earth is a Satellite of the Moon by Luciana Demichelis Luciana Demichelis’s work resembled poetry in visual form. Through her photographs, she explored the fragile relationship between nature and urban life. Her images evoked a sense of calm and reflection, offering a new perspective on the world.

Conclusion

The visit concluded with a meal at Das Valter, where the famous čevapi provided the perfect way to end an inspiring day. Conversations about the exhibitions continued, reflecting on themes of surveillance, identity, and global issues.

Foto Fest 2024 proved to be more than just a photography exhibition; it was a journey through stories, emotions, and important societal topics.
